The Positives and Negatives of Being a Freelancer
I am working as an outsourced worker for a few years. It was a huge experience. I have worked with many people and I was a part of many big and small teams. Many of the projects have ended and some of them are still ongoing. I think these experiences are worth mentioning. It can help a lot of newcomers to choose whether outsourcing is suitable for them or not.
As I am still working as an outsourced worker, you can say that I am totally into it. But still all of the experiences were not pleasant. There are some difficulties in this profession. If you can overcome those, you will do well in this field. What I really enjoy as an outsourced worker is that the choice is mine. I can choose the job on my own. I can do it part time or full time according to my wish. This means I can do my work according to my need. To me freedom is the most valuable thing and office work will not give me that. In the office, I have to work according to the office schedule. But, in this filed I can choose the working time myself. I love challenge in what I do. Outsourcing is the most challenging field in my opinion. You have to be updated and continuously improve yourself to do well here. This brings out the best of anyone.
These are the reasons why I prefer outsourcing, but this is not with only good points. There are many things that I dislike being an outsourced worker. What I dislike most is that when I am working as an outsourced worker, I am not a part of anything. I may work for a company, but I am not part of that company. I work for them and they pay for my work. It is simple and convenient in many ways. That’s the reason the term outsourcing came, but the lack of established relationship sometimes bother me a lot. Another problem that I face is the lack of communication. There is no direct contact between me and the employer. So, I don’t get immediate help when I really need it. This lack of communication sometimes creates confusion and delays the work a lot. Sometimes I have to wait a whole day just for a confirmation or response. This irritates me a lot. Another thing that I really hate is that there is no guarantee in this profession. You may get a lot of work or you may have to wait for your preferred work. The timetable depends totally on the employer. We, the worker, don’t have any key to us. Another key problem is that it is hard to maintain social life being an outsourced worker. People don’t treat outsourcing as a total profession yet. They treat this as a part time job. You won’t get the honor and social status according to your hard work.
There are many problems in this field, but I think this is true for any profession. The key to do better as an outsourced worker is to provide good work and the ability to maintain long term relationship with the employer. People have started considering outsourcing as a valued profession. That’s a positive sign. Though there are many obstacles in this profession, this is the best one for me.
