How to Get Jobs on Freelancing Websites
Freelancing is a very competitive market place. This makes it important to set oneself apart from the crowed to obtain a job. I have learnt that a good profile enhances the chances of one landing a job. This should have for a good profile overview. The profile overview is what introduces a writer to the employer. I make sure that my overview states my skills and what I can do in a straight to the point manner. A good profile picture also adds to the overall quality of a profile. I select a professional but friendly and inviting portrait to put up on my profile.
The hourly rate is also a determiner. Starting off as a newbie, I set a fairly low hourly to get that first job and to prove my capability. After some experience and positive reviews I then put an appropriate hourly rate according the skills and expertise I have to offer and the price of the service in the market place.
I also put a lot of stress on the resume. This is the chance I have to show case my experience to the employer on other jobs and activity outside freelance. This is where I have the chance to give details on my education background. To get the most out of it, I try to give as much relevant information as regards the jobs and services that I intend to undertake. The other important factor is the portfolio. Here, I showcase actual assignments that I have done. It is important to fill this with relevant fields, considering the jobs applied to.
The other important part, aside from profile, is the actual job application process. To stand out from the other applicants, I write an application letter that addresses the employer’s specific job requirements. This letter has to respond to the qualifications stipulated by the employer and the job description. I also ask the employer further questions to clearly understand what the job is about and to show my interest. The questions asked have to be relevant of course.
Alongside the cover letter, I always attach applicable previous assignments or mention links to previous assignments. This further demonstrates my ability to do the job. Then cometh the big deal, the bid! Usually I preview the average bid by the other applicants, sometimes it gets so low that one decides to walk away. Other times one just applies and hope to convince the employer to consider you despite your higher rate; while other times, especially when times are hard one is forced to go low too.
Finally, when the employer offers a job interview or a test assignment, I ensure I do my best and deliver to the specifications of the assignment. To stand out, one has to take time in the choice of jobs to apply to and to address the employer’s needs during the interview process.
